“SPIRIT OF RIO VISTA” AWARD WINNER ANNOUNCED
Ron Waite was announced as the first winner of RioVision’s “The Spirit of Rio Vista Award” at the recent Crab Feed sponsored by the American Legion. Ron is the current Commander of the Rio Vista American Legion Post 178. He is the leader and driving force behind the rejuvenation of the Post and of the Rio Vista Veterans Memorial Hall. Under his leadership, membership in this veteran’s organization has grown more than 60% in the past three years. The Post helps veterans, other local non-profits, and youth as well as sponsors quite a few social events for the community at large.
The Hall has become the location for the gathering of a newly energized community of military veterans and others. It has become an attractive venue that is widely used by many community organizations and private parties. This was accomplished with about $1million of funds for the pending renovations to the hall from the County of Solano, offered largely through Ron's leadership and dedicated work of the Post members. Ron exemplifies what new volunteer energy can accomplish when building upon the foundations and traditions in Rio Vista.
This new award, created by the RioVision Board of Directors to be presented annually, is bestowed upon an active, involved individual who has demonstrated enthusiasm and long term dedication to the improvement of Rio Vista. This individual is dependable, reliable, works well with others and has made a positive impact on many activities and/or multiple organizations.
The award will be formally presented to Ron at the Rio Vista Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Banquet to be held at 6 pm on February 17 in the Hall. Everyone is invited to attend. Tickets for the dinner are $25 and are now available for purchase at the Visitor Center & Pets 4 All.
